Research

Around in Week 2, I conduct detailed research the on the history of Nintendo Consoles, starting from Game and Watch to the Nintendo Switch. I handed out the research document to my teammates. They complied my research along with their research on game devices, type of games and a brief history on Nintendo in a presentation slide.

Storyboard

Week 3 is where Safia creates the storyboards. The storyboard is based on the order and layout of the research slide. Fastforward to Week 5 we are given feedback from Mr. Shamsul. He told us that it should be clearer, especially in terms of narrative direction.

Presentation Design Draft 1
On Week 6, Ian created the presentation sides in Illustrator. Mr. Shamsul commented that he likes the composition the overall design is quite plain and not interesting. He also said that it doesn't really give off a game feeling. But for the video we can use the timeline as a reference to present the conches.

Animation Progress

Animation Draft
Around Week 7, Yong Le is responsible for on creating the video. The attempts he has done exceeded the time limit. Until he finally added the background music, sound effects and voice over although it is an AI voice over.

Storyboard Part 2

Unfortunately, our presentation needs a lot of improvement Mr. Shamsul, think the introduction of the game devices and the type of game is unnecessary, the overall presentation design is poor, and the inclusion of the textbox is unnecessary. So, we have started all over from scratch.

Final Script
We write our script in order to construct the storyboard.

Animation Progress Part 2

We decide to use AI as the voiceover, one of the advantages is that the voiceover can generate itself, just by typing the script and it save us the time if we made changes to the script. The disadvantage being the voiceover sound robotic, so we have to make adjustments to make it sound natural.

FEEDBACK

Week 5
  • The storyboard should be clearer, especially in terms of narrative direction.
Week 6
  • Mr. Shamsul likes the composition.
  • The overall design is quite plain and not interesting. It doesn't really give off a "game" feeling.
  • The console timeline can be a reference to present in a video.
Week 7
  • Remove the grid in the presentation.
  • Remove the type of games and game devices.
  • Remove the text box.
  • Overall design is poor.

REFLECTION

Experience
When given the topic of The History of Video Games, I was ecstatic as I get to write and research on what I like most. The narrative and the design of the presentation the group worked on was however rejected a few times. Personally, it was frustrating for me as I was put into a back burner. I was then given an assisting role. I was given the task to write the script.

Observation
I was not comfortable when the group decided to use AI as voice over in the video. They also utilized chat GPT in coming up with the content. However, the group agreed to go ahead with the concept.

Finding
Working on a group project, whether it is two in a group or six in a group, it is important that week seek consensus when deciding a direction to go. Every group member has an opinion and different ideas. As a group we talk it over and made a decision unanimously and we stuck to it. I am personally learning to overcame that and learning to accept and work on as a group.
